Are you interested in helping bats in the region? There is always a need for people who can assist grounded and injured bats across the North East, whether that’s as an ambulance driver, bat carer or long term rehabilitator.
If you have a couple of hours a month to spare, we’d love for you to get involved, and the best way to get started is to attend one of our training events.
The roles available:
Ambulance Drivers
At the simplest level, you will just collect bats from the public and drop them off with a carer. You don’t have to do any first aid or care if you don’t feel comfortable, but you can do more if you like. This is a vital role in the bat care network and mileage expenses are covered as long as you are able to pass over some basic info on where the bat was found.
Bat Carers
A more hands on role where you will need to handle, feed and temporarily house bats. Again, you can commit to as much or as little as you feel comfortable with, so that may be as a first responder carrying out treatments for injured bats, or as a supporter who can provide a little bit of longer term care for rehabilitating bats.
If you would like to know more about assisting with bat care, we’d love to welcome you to these training events. You’ll learn about all aspects of bat first aid, longer term care, and how the data we collect from these bats helps us support all bats in the region. There’s no need to commit, you can decide if you want to get involved, and how much, after you’ve had the training. And if it’s not for you that’s also fine!
